SPACE4INSPIRACTION 2nd EDITION

MASTER OF SCIENCE IN SPACE DESIGN WITH ESA

Annalisa Dominoni + Benedetto Quaquaro lead the 2nd edition of the Course in SPACE DESIGN created by both professors and named SPACE4INSPIRACTION – inside the International Master of Science in Integrated Product Design at the School of Design, Politecnico di Milano – focussed on future visions and crossover between Space and Earth, with a special attention to generate spin-ins and spin-offs, according to the strategic programs of Space agencies for the next Space missions. 1st and unique Course in SPACE DESIGN supported by the European Space Agency (ESA).

The 2nd edition involved Thales Alenia Space, the world’s leading player in the construction of Space habitats, who chose to collaborate with us with the aim to design the GATEWAY, the new cis-lunar station, on which all the Space agencies are focussed at this time. The main objective of all the projects was aimed at improving the living and working conditions of the astronauts by focusing on the well-being and on psychological and emotional factors which, together with the biomedical ones, are fundamental for the success of a mission: they integrate augmented and immersive VR to allow a wider and more varied perception of space; they use water as a shield against cosmic radiation; they introduce illuminations that match the circadian rhythms to avoid physiological imbalances in biorhythm, sensorial environments capable of stimulating all the senses, and innovative technologies that reduce noise on board.
